Supporting Community Gardens

We believe in supporting community gardens to help bring healthy food options to the community and promote an active lifestyle by gardening and learning how to grow different fruits, vegetables and plants.

We partnered with the Fresh Start Youth Garden in Coffeyville (located at 1205 W. 9th St.) to support the wonderful work they do. They recently received an Implementation Grant from BCBSKS in the amount of $21,050 to build a cooling shed and cleaning station. This will enable them to prolong the shelf life of fresh produce until it reaches the consumers.

We love to visit their site to view the garden, see progress and spend time with the Garden Director, Jobea Morgan.

Pathways has been such a blessing to our organization and to the Fresh Start Youth Garden Program. The funding that was awarded to Fresh Start by Pathways has made a very key piece of infrastructure possible. The covered washing and packing station and the cold storage unit gives our project the ability to store fresh produce preventing unnecessary waste and makes traveling to market a thing of the past. Having cold storage at the Youth Garden will make fresh produce accessible to many more residents who do not have the ability to drive to the farmers market.”
